Lesson 11 Letter of Thanks 感谢信

在商务活动中，当一方受惠于另一方，应及时地表达谢意，使对方在付出劳动后得到心理上的收益，它是一种不可少的公关手段。感谢信是集体单位或个人对关心、帮助、支持本单位或个人表示衷心感谢的函件。

Dear Madam Chao，

Since I have just returned to New York，it is only now that I get the opportunity to send you and your associates a message of deep thanks for the cordial reception and hospitality extended to Ms.Chadwick and me，as well as my London associates，Messrs Fraenkel and Wright，during our stay in Beijing the latter part of July.

We do hope that you will give us，on an early occasion，an opportunity to reciprocate by visiting us here in New York as our guest.

The visit to your country was a great revelation to me，and I look forward to an opportunity to repeat this visit sometime in the future.

Kindly extend my greetings also to Mr. Ren and to the lady interpreters who were so kind to us during our entire stay.

1．get the opportunity to do …有机会做……

辨析：opportunity、chance和occasion

a.opportunity指好的机会，有偶然性，例如：

We shall make you a favorable quotation when the opportunity arises.

一有机会我公司将给你公司开报优惠的价格。

b.chance指偶然的机会，且不一定是好的机会，而且用得较广。例如：

I must have a talk with you in person，lest by chance anything in my letter should have been misinterpreted.

我一定要和你面谈，恐怕我信中有些话已被人误解了。

c.occasion指时机，不同于opportunity和chance，不是偶然发生的机会，而是泛指时机。例如：

We have a lot to discuss on this occasion.

此时此刻我们有许多事情要讨论。

Mr.Brown will choose his occasion to bring up the proposal.

布朗先生将选择时机提出此建议。

occasion与no连用，可转义解释为“必要”，例如：

There is no occasion to remind you of the date of shipment.

没必要提醒你（这批货的）装船日期。

2．associates 同事

辨析：associate与colleague

associate常用来表示工商企业界的同事，有“结合在一起”的含义；colleague常用于表示政府机关、学校等地的同事，有“一起工作，职业相同”的含义；associate company表示联号，也可称为affiliate company，在西方国家，有很多联号是同属于一个控股公司的商业机构。

reception用于人时，可作“接待”、“欢迎会”解释。例如：

We thank you for the warm reception extended to our representatives.

谢谢你们给予我们代表的热情招待。

沈同志在7月15日的欢迎会上讲了话。

当reception用于商品时，可作“欢迎”解释。例如：

Our handicrafts have met with a favourable reception in the USA and Canada.

我们的手工艺品在美国和加拿大深受欢迎。

5．Ms． 指Miss或Mrs． 女士（用在婚姻状况不明的女子姓名前），在西方国家的书报中常出现这个词。

7．The visit to your country was a great revelation to me． 这次对贵国的访问让我茅塞顿开。

revelation“启示”。指原来对中国情况不了解，经过来访，知道了很多有益的事情，有了很多启发。

也可以说：

Please convey my best regards to Mr.Ren.

Please remember me to Mr.Ren.
