Study on Protective Countermeasures and Evaluation of Coastline Erosion in Jiangsu Province

Abstract: Jiangsu Province has an important strategic position in the development of coastal zone, the length of its coastline is 989.12km and the area of its coastal zone with a broad slit tidal flat is 35 thousand km2. However, due to being open to the sea and having the characteristic of silt, the erosion of Jiangsu's coastline had increased under the effects of wave-current and sea level rising, which had put direct impacts on the reclamation and other coastal development, and had brought great pressure to the coastal ecological environment. Based on the status of coastline erosion in Jiangsu province, the loss evaluation of coast line erosion, the risk assessment of coastline erosion and impact assessment of coast erosion to the surrounding economic development had been analyzed, and this paper put forward several protective countermeasures and suggestions for coastline erosion in Jiangsu province.
