柏林墙遗址Site of the Berlin Wall

Site of Berlin Wall is the world's largest open-air gallery, which located between Berlin's Lichtenberg East station and the Ober Baum Bridge. In 1991, the Berlin Wall was listed as a protected building. The Berlin Wall is a special wall for German people, not only because it can recall the memory of the World War II in people's mind, but also because it is the symbolic of separation of people in one nation. The construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 was surrounded tightly to West Berlin, making West Berlin isolated from East Berlin and the entire eastern part of East Germany. Dismantling of the Berlin Wall in 1989 marked the beginning of the process of German reunification. It is also a landmark event in the Cold War. Today, only a few remnants of the Berlin Wall can still be seen in some few places.
