CHAPTER 3 WOULD YOU SIT BEHIND ME?

The riders had decided on the route they would take. Ten motorbikes set off at once, twisting and roaring into the night. As expected, Rahim was well ahead of everyone.

After the first race, they all had a break in the cafe. Siew Mei, as usual, was sitting next to her girlfriends. From the corner of her eye, she saw Rahim walking in.

She was thinking, “He would not look at me for sure.”

But, this time, she was so wrong.

For Rahim was approaching her and looking at her smilingly. She could not believe her eyes. “Were her eyes playing a trick on her, ” she wondered.

True enough, he was now walking towards her table. Bending down, he whispered in that heavenly voice, “You ride with me next.”

This time, she could not believe her ears. The other girls gasped too. They were thinking she was the luckiest girl that night.

All she could say was, “Me? Ride with you? Yes, yes! ” She was in seventh heaven. She was thinking that after tonight, her friends would behave differently towards her.

The boys and girls finished their drinks. The boys got ready for the return race. Kevin came to Siew Mei. Quickly, she told him, “I will not be your partner in the return race. I am going with Rahim.”

Kevin nodded his head, “Just be careful. Rahim rides too fast.”

Siew Mei walked to Rahim's motorbike. Rahim had a powerful bicycle. It was new, only six months old. Rahim always believed in having the best. He was pushing his powerful bike to the starting line. The others too pushed their bikes to the starting line.

Ravi, the referee, put up his hand and started the race. He liked to watch the hellriders racing. But, he would not take part. He knew that such a race was dangerous.
