CHAPTER 4 NO PEACE OF MIND
That whole weekend, she found it difficult to concentrate on her studies. Her science notes and diagrams made no sense to her. She was going to get another “F” in her report card.
Lately, that was all she was getting. She feared the day when she handed her report card to her father for his signature. He would explode.
Oh, how she wished the next day were Friday. Once again, they would be making their appearance at the Pyramid Complex. But, she had to wait for five more days! She had to go through the agony of waiting.
Naturally, she did badly in her test that Monday morning. She could not answer any of the questions asked.
Feeling sad and angry with herself, she walked home alone. On the way, she met Jenny who was waving cheerfully at her. What had she to be so happy about?
“I saw you struggling with your test, ”she said. “Why, you are still dreaming of that good-for-nothing Peter? ”
She replied softly, “I was not.”
Sally wanted to protest more but decided to keep quiet. She could not deny what she was feeling.
Her silence prompted Jenny to make critical remarks about him, such as the way he walked, the way he smiled and the way he talked. Everything about him was wrong.
“That's enough. Come, let's go for an ice-cream at our favourite ice-cream parlour, ” said Sally. She could not bear to hear any more.
Anyway, the rest of the week passed too slowly for the “Pyramid Kids”. They were impatient for Friday, the highlight of their week.
As for Sally, it was a miserable week of failing her class tests and listening to her class teacher's scolding. She forgot to do her homework. She did not bring her books. She did not bring her drawing paper.
Her teacher even warned her, “You go on like this. I have to speak to your parents.”
That she would try her best to avoid. She could imagine her father's anger if that happened.
