Long-Haired Girl
At the foot of a steep hill, there was a tribal village. The villagers led a very hard life because they did not have enough water. In this village, lived a beautiful little girl. Everyone called her the “Long-Haired Girl” because she had long, black hair.
One day, the Long-Haired Girl's mother fell ill. The Long-Haired Girl went to the steep hill to gather some herbs for her mother. At the top of the hill, she discovered a huge radish on the cliff. She thought to herself:“How great it will be if I can bring this huge radish back to my mother! ”
The Long-Haired Girl used all her strength to pull the huge radish out of the ground. Suddenly, a stream of spring water rushed out. The Long-Haired Girl got excited. She put the huge radish on the floor and drank the spring water. Suddenly, the radish flew up and stopped up the mouth of the spring.
The Long-Haired Girl was blown into a mountain cave by a stream of strange wind. A fierce looking Mountain Monster was standing right in front of her. He raised his voice at the Long-Haired Girl:“I have stopped up the mouth of the spring. Do not tell anyone about this secret, or I will kill you! ”
The Long-Haired Girl returned home. She did not dare tell her mother what had happened.
She felt terrible about hiding the secret and her long black hair became silvery white overnight.
When the Long-Haired Girl saw that her fellow villagers were dying of thirst, she could not keep the secret anymore.
She told them the secret of the spring water and led everyone to the steep hill where the spring was.
The Long-Haired Girl pulled the huge radish out and spring water gushed out.
Everyone was happy. When the huge radish flew up to seal the spring mouth, the Long-Haired Girl took out a knife and cut the radish in half. All of a sudden, a strange blast of wind blew across and the Long-Haired Girl disappeared.
The furious Mountain Monster took the Long-Haired Girl away. He punished her by putting her at the mouth of the spring to make her suffer the pain of being hit by the falling water. The Long-Haired Girl was ready to sacrifice herself and to do whatever the Mountain Monster asked her to do but under one condition. She wanted to see her mother one last time.
The Long-Haired Girl was released. But whenever she thought about leaving her mother, she became miserable and cried uncontrollably under the big Banyan Tree. The kind-hearted Banyan Tree God appeared before the Long-Haired Girl. He appreciated her bravery and wanted to help her.
The Banyan Tree God used his magical power to turn a stone into a statue that looked like the Long-Haired Girl.
In order for the statue to look exactly like the Long-Haired Girl, he transferred her long hair to the stone statue.
The Banyan Tree God blew gently at a leaf and the leaf became as huge as a ship.
The large leaf carried the stone statue to the steep hill and left the statue standing at the mouth of the spring.
Soon, the Mountain Monster realized that he had been cheated. He used his magical power to seek revenge. The sky turned dark all of a sudden and the Mountain Monster appeared among the dark cloud and roared loudly: “How dare you all fool me! I am going to kill everyone in the village! ”
The Long-Haired Girl was really scared. Everyone in the village was in great danger this time. The Banyan Tree God said: “Do not be afraid, I think he is seeking his own death. Come on, take this bow to shoot him! ” The Banyan Tree God turned a branch into a bow and passed it to the Long-Haired Girl.

The Long-Haired Girl hated the Mountain Monster for he had been selfishly hoarding the spring water. She took the bow and aimed it at his chest.“Whoosh! ” The arrow hit the Mountain Monster and killed him instantly!
The Long-Haired Girl was very grateful to the Banyan Tree God. The Banyan Tree God patted her head gently and disappeared into the Banyan Tree. Soon, the Long-Haired Girl found her long, black hair again.
From then on, the spring water from the steep hill did not stop flowing and the villagers depended on the spring water to farm and grow plants. Their lives became better off day by day.
