The amygdala gets spooked easily. Small steps forge new pathways in your brain that allow you to retrain the amygdala. This releases serotonin, which allows you to respond with creativity, innovation, and focus. New things you can try include taking a new way home from work, learning a new skill or avocation, or seeking counsel from someone who looks at a situation in a new and different way.
