③hurt 伤害,一般的用语,可用于指肉体的伤害,也可用于指精神的伤害,特指伴有痛苦的肉体的伤害;它的用法与injury 相比显得稍不正式:He jumped from the top of the wall and hurt his leg. 他从墙上跳下,扭伤了腿。

④harm 损害,与injury 意义相当,通俗且口语化,指身体或精神上的损害均可,是极小的 injury,仅引起不便或不安而已;不卫生的地方,对于居住的人会给予 harm,不良的宣传也会造成 harm:bad books do great harm to the students. 坏书对学生危害极大。

⑤loss 遗失、损失,damage指部分的损失,loss 却指绝对的损失;loss 又被用作损害、死伤等的意味:He reported the loss of his wallet to the police. 他向警察报案说钱包丢了。
