As the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, Tokyo needs a new image. To hold the 1964 Summer Olympic Games, Tokyo built an elevated highway in the urban center of Tokyo, crossing the city. This road solved the traffic problems, but it brought about destructive effects on civic landscape and heritage buildings too. The site was located at the bridge head of Nihonbashi-the geographic center of Tokyo. This is the origin of Tokyo. As what a metropolis had experienced in the process of modernization, the city construction under the technological determinism couldn't undertake the cultural life required by the nature of city. The elevated highway that people took pride in faced the destiny of demolition, and the central site with scarce and expensive land needed a space that was more efficient, complex and full of activities. Around the riverside landscape restoration and re-prosperity of the streets after the demolition of the elevated highway, students made multiple attempts in their designs, and tried to give an answer to the reinstatement of such a complicated urban land parcel, from the perspective of history, culture, post-information society and humanism.
