6.Main Findings and Suggestions

6.1 Main Findings
6.1.1 Chinese urban/rural residents’ dietary energy supply was sufficient, and dietary structure changed to some extent. Physical development and nutritional status improved overall,and overweight and obesity became striking.
6.1.2 Chronic diseases are the main causes of death with an increasing uptrend of the prevalence over past decades. The burden of chronic diseases is rapidly increasing nationwide.
6.1.3 Behavioral risk factors are widespread in the population, smoking, harmful use of alcohol and physical inactivity and unhealthy diets, have not been controlled effectively.
6.2 Policy Suggestions
6.2.1 To set national pluralistic goals for nutrition improvement and chronic disease control and prevention.
6.2.2 To strengthen leadership and multi-sectoral collaboration and incorporate nutrition improvement and chronic disease control and prevention into various public policies.
6.2.3 To connect top-down and bottom-up approaches, stress on combination of prevention and management of chronic diseases, and combination of the roles of traditional and western medicine in chronic disease prevention and control as well as build the chronic disease control system and mechanism.
6.2.4 To actively facilitate the implementation of strategies for control and prevention of chronic diseases in an integrated manner.
6.2.5 To strengthen surveillance and monitoring and improve chronic diseases control and prevention based on scientif c evidence.
