Preface

The Minority Photography Talents Training Project is hosted by China Photographers Association and undertaken together by the Beijing Photography Correspondence Institute and Education Commission of China Photographers Association, with subsidies from China Literature and Art Foundation and supports of the Personnel Ministry of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. As an important initiative to carry out the spirit of art and literature conveyed by the Party Central Committee, the project aims to cultivate the backbones of talents of ethnic minorities by relying on abundant photography resources from China Photographers Association, while promoting cultural and social development in the regions inhabited by ethnic groups, as well as further driving ethnic development and reinforcing national unity.

From January to February 2015, the second session of the Minority Photography Talents Training Project was held in Beijing. 50 students from fifteen nationalities attended the training course where they communicated face to face with famous photographers and educators, achieved precious knowledge and skill and also developed deep friendship with each other. The students' nationalities are as follows: Hui, Tibetan, Yao, Zhuang, Miao, Buyi, Tujia, Mongolian, Russian, Uygur, Lahu, Yi, Lisu, Pumi, Han.

Zhong Xiaolong, a Tibetan student from the Photographers Association of Sichuan Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, wrote a poem for the occasion. In the poem farewell blesses,he wrote:

“So, here comes our separation

In the name of our mutual signals

In the name of our mutual dreams

We wave and leave.”

“We will meet again

Then, I believe, our dream has come true

The history, illuminated,

Give out a brilliant gleam.”

Every person must have a dream about his homeland. And for these ethnic minority students, their dreams about homeland are shown in each of their vivid and intelligent photos, most of which record the attractive and unique landscape of their hometown and more importantly, the fellow countrymen living around them.

We gathered the outstanding works together and have the book published in order to share with more readers.
