Configuring and customizing the Windows Taskbar

The Windows Taskbar is a ribbon that, by default, is located at the bottom of the screen. It was introduced in Windows 95 and since then has been included in each new version of Windows OS that followed. As such, the Windows Taskbar contains the Start button, the Cortana icon or search box, a few default pinned apps, icons of the programs currently opened in the Windows desktop, the notification area, the system clock, and the action center icon. Earlier versions of Windows OS had the quick launch on the Windows Taskbar.

To configure and customize the Windows Taskbar, complete the following steps:

1. Click the Start button.
2. With the Start menu open, select Settings.
3. Select Personalization from the Windows Settings dialog box.
4. Select Taskbar on the Personalization setting's navigation.
5. You'll have plenty of controls to configure and customize so you can make the Windows Taskbar look how you want.

To pin your favorite app on the Windows Taskbar, complete the following steps:

1. Click the Start button.
2. With the Start menu open, right-click the favorite app tile on the right panel of the Start menu.
3. Select More from the context menu, as shown in the following screenshot, and then select the Pin to taskbar option:
