Excel files
If you want to connect to an Excel file, follow these steps:
- Click on Microsoft Excel in the list of available connections when you open Tableau.
- Search for your file in your computer, double-click on it, and Tableau automatically opens the file.
- The different tables are displayed on the left, as in the following screenshot:
- Drag and drop the table you want to analyze on the Data Source part, on the right.
If your file is not clean or contains, for example, a title or merged cells, try to click on Use Data Interpreter to clean your file.
Connecting to an Excel file is straightforward. Let's now try another type of file: a text file.
