Installation order
The FIM CM components can be installed regardless of the other FIM pieces.
If you have an existing SCSM environment, the SCSM Servers might already be in place but might still need some updates to support FIM 2001 R2 Reporting.
The following SCSM Servers need to be installed before we install the FIM Reporting feature:
- SCSM Management (if the FIM Reporting feature is to be used)
- SCSM Data Warehouse (if the FIM Reporting feature is to be used)
The FIM components also have some dependencies that make it logical to install them in a certain order. They should be installed in the following order:
- FIM Synchronization Service
- FIM Service
- FIM Portals
- FIM Reporting
If you have a setup similar to The Company, the order of installation could be to start off with the test/development environment. I am using the syntax server name: feature to install, in the following installation lists. The server names refer to the server names used in the description of the environment in Chapter 1, The Story in this Book.
- FIM-Dev: FIM Synchronization Service
- FIM-Dev: FIM Portal and FIM Service
You can now start testing and development of the FIM Synchronization and FIM Service solutions.
We then move on to install the production environment in the following order:
- SCSM-MGMT: SCSM Management
- SCSM-DW: SCSM Data Warehouse
- FIM-Sync: FIM Synchronization Service
- FIM-Service: FIM Service, FIM Portal, and FIM Reporting
- FIM-PW: FIM Password Registration and Reset Portals
The FIM CM can be installed at any point, but it also has two components that I usually install in the following order, since there are dependencies within FIM CM as well:
- FIM-CM: FIM Certificate Management
- CA: FIM CM CA Files
