The three-year Electrical and Electronics Engineering program[1] provides a solid foundation in the theory and practice of electronics. Program equips students with the knowledge and skills to handle electronic devices, circuits and systems[2].
Electrical and Electronics Engineering students learn through a combination of design and lab[3] work. This mix of theory and practical application allows students to think things through[4] and then apply their ideas in a variety of real life situations. Besides being technologically competent, they will also develop effective communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills[5]ready for the workplace.
Students will go through a common Electrical and Electronics Engineering fundamental courses. These core courses[6] are Basic Electrical Engineering, Analog Electronics, and Digital Electronics[7]. They will then select one of the following options[8] for their second and third year of study. These options are Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Microelectronics, or Communication Technology.
Students will have excellent and flexible career prospects in telecommunications, instrumentation and control, computing, consumer and industrial electronics industries. Their job areas may include product design and testing, process improvement, maintenance, marketing, and services.
The following is the Electrical and Electronics Engineering fundamental courses descriptions.
Basic Electrical Engineering:resistor, capacitor, inductor; Ohm’s law; series and parallel circuits; RC, RL and RLC circuits; single and three phase circuits; transformer, power generation and distribution.
Analog Electronics:diode; bipolar junction transistor: common base, common emitter, common collector configuration; field-effect transistor: common gate, common source, common drain configuration; operational amplifier, differential and multi-stage amplifier, power amplifier; filters and oscillator; rectification, regulation and DC power supplier.
Digital Electronics:combinational logic circuit(including logic gate, decoder, multiplexer, adder, multiplier, programmable logic device); sequential logic circuit(including flip-flop, register, counter, memory); digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converter.
