III.Physical Development and Nutritional Status

3.1 Physical Development

3.1.1 Height
3.1.1.1 Adult height
In 2012, the heights of Chinese male and female residents aged 18 years and above were 167.1cm and 155.8cm respectively: 168.0cm and 166.2cm for urban and rural male, and 156.7cm and 154.9cm for urban and rural female, respectively. The average heights of adult male and female residents were on the rise in comparison with those of 2002.
3.1.1.2 Height of children aged 6.17years
Compared with 1992 and 2002, in 2012, all age groups of Chinese urban/rural children aged 6~17 years reported height increased generally, with rural growth range higher than urban level.
Compared with that in 2002, the heights of urban male/female children and adolescents increased by 2.3cm and 1.8cm respectively on average, and those of rural male/female children and adolescents increased by 4.1cm and 3.5cm on average.
3.1.1.3 Height of children aged below6years
In 2013, heights of male and female children aged 6 months in China were 68.9cm and 67.8cm respectively; of male and female children aged 12 months, 76.0cm and 75.3cm respectively; and of male and female children aged 23 months, 86.3cm and 84.7cm respectively.Results of heights of children in groups of 24~, 36~, 48~, 60~71.9 months showed that heights of male children were 90.9cm, 98.5cm, 105.8cm and 112.2cm respectively, and those of female children were 89.9cm, 97.7cm, 104.9cm and 110.9cm respectively. Generally, in terms of heights in different month-age groups of children aged below 6 years in China, male children were higher than female children, urban children higher than rural children, and poor rural children’s height level was the lowest (Table 3-1).

Compared with that in 2002, in 2013, heights of all month-age groups among urban/rural children aged 2~5 years increased generally, and the rural change range was higher than urban level (Table 3-2).

3.1.2 Body weight
3.1.2.1 Adult body weight
In 2012, average body weights of male and female adults aged 18 years and above in China were 66.2kg and 57.3kg respectively: 68.0kg and 58.2kg for urban male and female adults respectively, and 64.3kg and 56.3kg for rural male and female adults respectively. Compared with those in 2002, average body weights of urban/rural male and female adults in China presented an uptrend, with rural increase range higher than urban range.
3.1.2.2 Body weight of children aged 6.17years
Compared with 1992 and 2002, body weights of all age groups among Chinese urban/rural children aged 6~17 years increased generally, with rural growth range higher than urban level.Compared with that in 2002, average body weight of urban male/female children and adolescents increased by 3.6kg and 2.1kg, and that of rural male/female children and adolescents increased by 4.7kg and 3.4kg.
3.1.2.3 Body weight of children aged below6years
In 2013, body weights of male and female Chinese children aged 6 months were 8.8kg and 8.2kg respectively; of male and female children aged 12 months, 10.4kg and 9.9kg respectively;of male and female children aged 23 months, 12.7kg and 11.8kg respectively. Results of body weights of children groups of 24~, 36~, 48~, 60~71.9 months show that weight of male children were 13.7kg, 15.8kg, 17.9kg and 20.2kg respectively, and of female children, 13.2kg, 15.3kg,17.2kg and 19.4kg respectively (Table 3-3).

Generally speaking, in terms of body weight level of different months/month groups of Chinese children aged below 6 years, male children were higher than female children, and urban children higher than rural children, while that of poor rural children was the lowest.
Compared with that in 2002, body weights of all month groups of urban/rural Chinese children aged 2~5 years in 2013 increased generally, and the rural change rate was higher than urban level (Table 3-4).
