Physical Growth and Development and the Nutritional Status of 137 Disabled Children aged 0~6

[Abstract]Objective To explore the physical growth and development conditions and the nutritional status of 137 disabled children ( except that with physical disability) aged 0~6,study the affect factors of nutritional status a-mong children with disability.Methods A census was carried out among disabled children aged 0~6 in Guangzhou and Dongying city.Study the physical growth and development conditions through height and weight measuring among disabled children.Using a self-designed questionnaire,face to face interviews were taken to collect the basic information and the nutritional status of disabled children.Results The median of height among disabled boys is 100.00cm,while among girls is 105.00cm.The median of weight among disabled boys is 19.00kg,while among girls is 20.00kg.There are 36 ( 39.6%) children out of 91 suffering all types of malnutrition and Vitamin deficiency occupies the highest proportion ( 26.4%) .Whether disabled children had diseases within half a year is the most significant factors related to their nutritional status ( P = 0.002) .Conclusion Disabled children aged 0~6 are in bad condition of physical growth and development,the proportion of malnutrition is high.We should pay highly attention to the condition of physical growth and development and the nutritional status of disabled children,and build a proper circumstance for them to grow better.
