2.1.1 课程目标 Course Objective
平面设计课旨在向学生介绍基本的二维视知觉原理和设计要素,设定结构、组织、构图和色彩等复杂的任务训练,培养学生解决问题的能力。学习对称、网格等构成基础、格式塔理论以及约瑟夫·阿尔伯斯和约翰内斯·伊顿的相关色彩理论,还讲授一些具体的平面设计理论。课程内容包括色彩明度、对称性和基本的构图方法,课程教师科勒尔·凯斯设计了系列的课程作业和最终的大作业视觉混合项目。
Foundation Two-Dimension is designed to introduce students to basic perceptual two-dimensional visual principles and elements of design, this course presents sophisticated problem-solving environments in which structure, organization, composition and color are emphasized. Manipulation of value and emphasis, grids and symmetries as the basis for composition, Gestalt perceptual phenomena and Josef Albers’ and Johannes Itten’s color relationships and contrasts are some of the specific concepts. Beginning with an emphasis on value, symmetry, emphasis/focus and basic compositional tools. Course teacher, Colel Case, has designed a series of projects and a final optical mixing assignment. Students are expected to become familiar with all of the concepts.
2.1.2 评价标准 Grading Policy
成绩评估主要基于在规定期限内执行和完成所有任务的情况。每位学生的出勤情况均记录在册,不允许迟到和旷课。不能错过集体讲评,每个人的意见和信息反馈都是非常必要和有价值的,因此不要错过讨论学习的机会。为了更好地完成项目作业,课程的学习时间既包括课内时间也包括课后时间。为避免拖沓而影响后续的任务,应该高效率地利用课堂上的工作时间。本课程是一门实践课程,需要自行携带课程所需的相关材料和工具。工作习惯和出勤率会影响最终成绩判定,另外,课程中积极努力的状态和作业水平的提高也有助于取得更好的成绩。
Assessment of students work are based primarily on their ability to execute and complete all assignments within deadline. Students are expected to attend all class. Tardiness and absenteeism would not be tolerated if they become chronic. Students should not miss critiques, not only is teachers’ opinion and feedback necessary and valuable, they would miss an opportunity to learn something about their work. Work time includes both in class and out of class in order to complete the projects. Use in class work time effectively to avoid falling behind as things have a tendency to build up quickly. This is a working studio class, students are expected to show up with the materials and work within the designated work time until the end of the class. Effort and improvement are recognized in grading and can contribute to a better grade. Work habits and attendance would also influence the final grade.

2.出勤要求 Attendance Requirement
学生必须按时上课,出勤率低会影响课程成绩。无法上课时需要事先向任课教师请假。上课十五分钟后到达教室记迟到一次,迟到三次算一次旷课,本学期旷课六次及以上无法通过课程考核。
Presence in each class is mandatory unless students have cleared it with teacher beforehand. Poor attendance affects grade adversely. 15 minutes late for any lessons is tardy in attendance. 3 tardiness=1 absence. 6 absences during the course of the semester results in a failing grade.
