3.Mortality of Chronic Diseases

3.1 The mortality of chronic diseases was 533.0/100 000 in 2012, accounting for 86.6% of total deaths: 611.2/100 000 and 452.6/100 000 for male and female respectively; 449.4/100 000 and 594.5/100 000 for urban and rural respectively. The leading causes of death were cardiovascular diseases, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases, accounting for 79.4% of total deaths.
3.2 The mortality of cardiovascular diseases was 271.8/100 000 in 2012, 296.4/100 000 and 246.4/100 000 for male and female respectively; 218.8/100 000 and 310.7/100 000 for urban and rural respectively.
3.3 The mortality of cancer was 144.3/100 000 in 2012, 185.2/100 000 and 102.2/100 000 for male and female respectively; 135.3/100 000 and 150.9/100 000 for urban and rural respectively.The top f ve cancers with the highest mortality were lung cancer, liver cancer, stomach cancer,esophagus cancer and colorectal cancer.
3.4 The mortality of chronic respiratory diseases was 68.0/100 000 in 2012, 76.7/100 000 and 59.1/100 000 for male and female respectively; 48.9/100 000 and 82.0/100 000 for urban and rural respectively.
3.5 Compared with 1990, the total number of deaths due to chronic diseases in 2013 increased by 33.5%, but the standardized mortality decreased considerably by 25.7%
